Jordan blasted his Kent Cams-supported Chevron-Rover B42 to FTD in this
ASWMC Hillclimb Championship round on Easter Sunday - the North Devonian
having chased the major pot on the 600 yard St Austell hill since l975.
The large capacity racing car class was depleted when Mike Remnant sadly
blew the supercharged Rover unit in his Ralt RT1, when he missed a gear
in practice, Jim Bennett's Nike-Rover becoming Jordan's only opposition.
The usual large mixed bag contested the three
road/rally car classes – the pretty Cox GTM of Geoff Bird defeating Andrew
Till's Fiat X19 by 0.47sec among the l300’s. An all-out battle went the
way of Tony Wiltshire’s Elan over the Europa of Andrew Pegg, and Tony Michael‘s
new supercharged Triumph TR7 V8 took the top bracket from David Harris‘s
Chevette HSR.
There were special saloons aplenty, John White's
Marshall & Fraser Reliant Kitten taking the 1300cc honours. Cornish
international rallyman Mike Tregoning dominated the big-engined group,
his Padstow Garage Escort RS eating Steve Diment's ex-Keith Richards’s
version.
A close-fought mod/prod sports battle saw Julian
Brierley's MG Midget pip Alan Woodridge's Davrian, while Mike Lee (Mallock)
lost out to Gary James‘s Dino 4 after a traumatic day among the clubmans/sports
racers.
The Crocker family's Harrison KH4 was the class
act of the 1100cc single-seaters. Paul beating brother David by just 0.17scc.
Former Escort ace Keith Richards beat John Barnett's Royale with his newly
acquired Ehrlich.
